Chuck Hungerford, President
The Leon County Food Co-op, now New Leaf Market, has been a part of my life since I came to Tallahassee in 1981. I have been a member worker, prior board member and chairperson, and now serve as President of the Board of Directors. Over the years, my contributions to New Leaf have been returned ten-fold in friendships formed, knowledge of organic and natural foods obtained, and being part of a larger, supportive, and progressive community.
Candice Parker, Vice President
Candice or "Candy" is the current board Vice President and has been a member of the Co-op and the Board for many years. She is passionate about New Leaf Market's principles and wants to ensure that the Co-op remains a cornerstone of Tallahassee's community in the coming years.
Dave Watson, Secretary and Treasurer
How can I best give back to a community I call home and one that I love being a part of? New Leaf Market answers that question for me. They and many other small businesses like NLM have the ability to support the community in a way that makes Tallahassee unique.
Jennifer Agabiti-Hall, Director
Jennifer has been an owner of the Co-op since November 2004 when she moved to Tallahassee from Atlanta. She is a local chiropractor and clinical nutritionist. Jennifer was appointed to the Board in September 2006. She was very active in the owner loan program as one of the designated callers, and is extremely enthusiastic about the upcoming expansion. Jennifer hopes to continue to serve on the Board and help in any way possible to ensure the healthy future of New Leaf Market!
Jim Terrell, Director
Jim Terrell has been a board member for two years. He plays a very active role, contributing to several committees and recently played a pivotal role in the owner loan program. Both of his sons enjoy working at New Leaf Market and he and his family have a rich history both supporting the Co-op and other important community organizations.
Joshua Youngblood, Director
I have been a board member since July 2006. I am an historian by training and recently completed everything but my dissertation for a Ph.D. at Florida State. I am currently working as the Program Assistant to the Florida Main Street Program in the Bureau of Historic Preservation, Florida Department of State. A native of Monroe, Louisiana, I spent much of my childhood between there and Augusta, Georgia, where my mother still lives. I first came to Florida for graduate school, and after marrying and moving to and from Atlanta, I settled down in the Florida panhandle. My wife, Teresa, our son, Woody, and I have made our home in one of the historic neighborhoods in downtown Tallahassee. We have found here a community and diversity unlike any other town in the South, with a vital and growing progressive center embodied by New Leaf Market. It is a pleasure to serve the Coo-p as best I can.
Heidi Fox, Facilitator
Martha Weinstein, Facilitator
One never knows what part of their life will become a lifelong part of them. The common thread in my life for the 31 years I've lived in Tallahassee has been the Food Co-op and New Leaf Market. I've been a part of it, and it is a part of me. I started out as a weekly volunteer; then, for 6 years, I was a member of the collective that managed the Co-op; I've served on the board of directors; and now I am one of the board facilitators. My, how we've both grown during these years!
Jeanette Reed, Director
Jeannette recently joined the Board and is enthusiastically looking forward to contributing to the New Leaf Market community. She views the current expansion as a strong indication that the area community believes in "a world in which humans live in harmony with their environment and each other" and is excited to become part of the vision of New Leaf Market.
Madelon Horwich, Director
I have been an owner of the New Leaf Market for 23 years, back when it was the Leon County Food Co-op on Gaines. My kids, Marcy and Phillip, have grown up with New Leaf Market as a resource for healthful food and a sense of community. For years I took for granted that New Leaf Market would always be there for us, and now I am honored to be able to give back to the Co-op.
June Wiaz, Director
June joined the New Leaf Market Board this past summer. In December she completed a masters degree in clinical nutrition from FSU (as the partial expression of her mid-life crisis). She is hoping to start her own nutrition consulting practice, specializing in food allergy/intolerance, as well as working with families with teenagers who have chosen to become vegetarians (often to the vexation of their parents). Her previous professional background is in the environmental field. June enjoys gardening, hiking, cooking, reading and being on the Board of New Leaf Market! She's honored to be serving in that capacity.
