Wakulla Wildlife Festival

Natural Times March/April 2009

The Department of Environmental Protection's Wakulla Springs State Park will be the hub of The Wakulla Wildlife Festival which continues to bring the experience of the Big Bend's colorful heritage and exceptional ecosystems to people of varied interests. From April 2 through April 4, 2009, explore and learn about Wakulla's diverse habitats.

Thursday through Saturday, premium tours will showcase the magnificent flora and fauna of Wakulla County. The "soft" adventure experiences will deliver participants to coastal vistas, offer views through windows on the water in glass bottom kayaks, and transport eager eyes into the depths of a gopher tortoise burrow. Other tours will walk visitors through the Cathedral of Palms, take them on a journey to the hidden "Liquid Gems" (the sinks) of Wakulla County, or transport them to the Wakulla River dotted with the ruby-red eyes of alligators glistening through the flashlight lit nightscape. Thirty tours await discovery. Many tours will take you to places unknown or often unavailable to the general public!

Enjoy fine art, fine dining, and the fine music of Sammy Tedder (www.SammyTedder.com) during the Wildlife Art Opening at Wakulla Springs State Park on Friday evening, April 3. On Saturday, April 4, the toe tappin' bluegrass music of City Limits and Coon Bottom Creek will lift spirits. Step back in time as living history demonstrations bring to light skills once necessary for survival. There will be free children's activities, free shows, and over 30 knowledgeable exhibitors on Saturday, April 4 as well.
