Newsletters: November-December 2009
21st Century, Here We Come!
Natural Times November/December 2009
By Cristin Burns, Marketing Manager
Beginning in the new year, New Leaf Market’s newsletter will be undergoing several changes. Although they have been mentioned in previous issues, I would like to detail the changes and the reasons why we are doing so.
Historically, Natural Times has been mailed bi-monthly to active owners—defined as having shopped within the past six months. Additionally, copies were distributed in the store and at locations throughout Tallahassee, and the newsletter content was posted to our website. Notification emails were then sent to our email list reminding subscribers that the newest issue was available electronically. All total, we were printing 36,000 copies and mailing over 24,000 each year. With the increasing cost of postage, and our desire to reduce our use of paper, we have decided to stop mailing the newsletter - at a savings of over $6,000 a year.
Natural Times will also go from six issues a year to four. Again, this is partially to reduce our paper consumption, but more importantly it is to move towards e-newsletters. Frequently, due to the time it takes to turn around the newsletter, content has not been as current as we would like. By moving to fewer printed newsletters and more electronic versions we will be able to communicate time-sensitive information and quickly report on events rather than wait several months for the next printed issue. To begin, we will send one e-newsletter a month, however, we hope to increase the frequency to several times a month. If you haven’t already, please make sure we have your current email on file.
You will also notice that beginning in January, there will no longer be advertisers in Natural Times. Over the past several years, we have decreased the number of ads in the newsletter and, now that we are reducing the frequency, we plan on needing every inch of space. I would like to thank our advertisers who have been faithful supporters of Natural Times: Integrative Healthcare, Joyful Mind, KBH Farms, Leslie Hanks’ Yoga Unlimited and Natural Matters.
Printed newsletters will continue to be offered in the store for your convenience. If you prefer not to receive e-newsletters you can either not supply us with your email or choose the unsubscribe option on the e-newsletters. I hope that these changes will allow us to better serve you.
