Oak Ridge Elementary School Receives $5,000 From Local Co-op

TALLAHASSEE, FL. (Feb. 17, 2009) - New Leaf Market, locally-owned natural foods cooperative, will donate $5,000 to Oak Ridge Elementary in a small award ceremony on Friday, February 20 at 11:00 am in the media center. The money is specifically designated to be used for new books. Oak Ridge Elementary was chosen by New Leaf Market to be the recipient of this donation based on their growing percentage of poverty-level students (as per the Annual Yearly Progress Report).

New Leaf Market raised the money during their recent grand re-opening following a massive renovation and expansion. The Co-op pledged to donate five percent of sales to Oak Ridge Elementary. Thanks to the incredible community support, five percent came to $5,000.

As a cooperatively-owned business, New Leaf MarketŐs mission includes building a vibrant and healthy local community. In addition to providing natural foods and educating about their benefits, New Leaf Market annually donates thousands of dollars in products and services. Last year the Co-op donated over $60,000 to local organizations, churches, schools and government offices.

New Leaf Market opened its doors in 1974. Since then, it has grown from a small buying club, to a full-service grocery store.
